How to Buy a Used Mercedes Benz
There are some things to consider before purchasing a used Mercedes Benz. Would you be better off buying from a private party, buying from a Mercedes Benz Dealership, or possibly from a small independent dealer.
The benefit of buying from a licensed dealer is that you have the option of purchasing a Certified Vehicle. A Certified Used Mercedes Benz is put through a stringent inspection by trained and experienced Mercedes Benz technicians. Most Certified Mercedes Benz will come with an extended warranty with roadside assistance.
The advantage of buying your used Mercedes Benz from a private party is the owner can tell you the complete accurate history of the vehicle while it was in their possession. The negative side of buying from a private party is if something goes wrong with your car the previous owner will not be able to fix it for you.
You could look at the smaller independent dealers and probably pay less than you would from a Mercedes Benz dealer or from a private party. Whether or not the dealer will be able to help you should you have problems with the car would depend on the tools and facilities that the independent dealer owns.
There are some parts on a Mercedes Benz that the company will not sell to consumers or independent dealers. Certain parts have to be bought at the Mercedes Benz dealer and installed by the same. If the vehicle was not purchased from the dealership and you have to pay the labor this could be an exorbitant cost.
When there is a trade-in involved most private parties would not even consider your trade as part of the deal leaving you to liquidate it on your own. The Mercedes Benz Dealer and the independent dealer would be more than happy to take your used vehicle in trade. Also, financing is easier to set up through licensed dealers. You would have to set up your own financing to purchase a private party used Mercedes Benz.
